The city purchased it in 1920, and it has served as the long-term site for local minor league baseball.” A wooden grandstand was built in 1940, after a fire in 1975 it was renovated and renamed MeDermott Field.  By 2004, McDermott Field was outdated, deteriorating, and well past the end of its useful life as a baseball venue. In 2006 it was torn down and a new updated stadium was built named Melaleuca Field Arial view Northgate Mile about 1960 Area of the Country Club Mall on Northgate Mile at the time of the Grand Opening 1971
